Devon Packer has been studying piano at the McGill Conservatory since the age of 5. His first major performance was at the age of 7 when he debuted as a soloist with the Orchestre Symphonique de l’Isle playing Haydn’s “Divertimento in C Major”. He has appeared at multiple venues in Canada, Europe, and the United States. Most recently, he has performed at New York’s prestigious Carnegie Hall.
Devon appeared at the Just for Laughs festival in 2016 and again in 2017, performing as both a soloist and accompanist to other artists, at the Gala de Ouf/Kids’ Cabaret. He has appeared on screen as Ben Stiller’s piano prodigy son in the film Brad’s Status and on stage as Moishe in the production of Queen of Chesed at Théâtre Outremont.
Devon has branched out into the world of composition. He had his first composition published in 2015 called “The Fantastical World of Camelot”. Since then, he has been studying composition at the Purcell School of Composition in the UK. In 2020 alone he was shortlisted for two international composition competitions, being the only finalist to represent Canada. In May of 2021 he won the Young Adjudicator’s Award in the Commonwealth International Composition Award for his composition Oceania. He also received High Mention for the CICA grand prize. In March of 2022 he won the Grand Prize in the Commonwealth International Composition Award for his newest composition, ...reaching....
In the spring of 2022, Devon was awarded the Québec Lieutenant Governor’s Youth Medal for his contributions to his school and community.
